In October of 2006, CrossWinds Church adopted a strategic new mission statement that is transforming the focus of our ministry on every level. The new mission statement is as follows:
The mission of CrossWinds Church is to KNOW Jesus, LOVE Jesus and REFLECT Jesus in our communities and world.
This statement is giving us missional clarity and focus as to who we are called to be as a church. Our mission has quickly transformed the way we talk, the way we do ministry and our future as a church. Everyone is learning that there is a powerful progression in the words know, love and reflect. The journey begins with a quest to know who Jesus really is. Once you come to know Him you can't help but fall in love with Him. And our love for Jesus naturally leads to reflecting Him in our communities and world.
There is a little catch phrase that we are using to describe the mission in our communities and the world: the church GATHERED and SCATTERED. We gather together in many different formats and places for spiritual formation. We then scatter to reflect Jesus beyond the walls of the church gathered. Our vision is to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving those in our neighborhoods and wherever God leads us in the world.
My soul has been stirred by the numbers of CrossWinds people who have "caught" the vision created by our mission and are running with it. New local and global initiatives are springing up every week as people follow their passions by taking on service projects of every description. The bottom line is that people with many kinds of unique needs in the community are being served.
One of our volunteer Community Life leaders recently made a statement that expresses the spirit of our vision as well as anything we have heard so far. As his team was busy doing home repairs for a disabled woman in Livermore he said to one of our pastors: "We want to be the face in the community before the new church facility gets here." We love it when one of our own not only gets the vision but is living it out as a reflection of Christ!
Everything is an experiment
Playing it safe is risky
We would rather be known by what we’re for
than by what we’re against
Pray like it depends on God - Take action like it depends on you
Love people when they least expect it and least deserve it
The vision God gave this church is too important
for us to be divisive over disagreements
It is never too late to become who you might have been
The Big Idea
We pour our greatest amount of effort into
one single thing each week for maximum impact
Bring someone with you
Jesus changes everything
What We Believe
We believe that there is one God, the Creator of the universe, and that this God is good, wise, powerful, loving, and holy. We believe that this God loves everything that He has made, especially human beings, whom He created in His own image.
We also believe that, through no fault of God's, humanity estranged itself from God, and that this estrangement is the ultimate cause of all evil, pain, suffering and death in the world - and beyond. We believe that if God didn't provide a means of escape, the human race - as individuals, and as the whole family of humankind - would self destruct, remaining eternally separated from God.
Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; 6:23
We believe that this state of affairs was unacceptable to God. We believe that God came into our world, and that it is through the death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection that God rescues men and women, children and elderly, rich and poor alike - and He demonstrates His great love, and claims us to be a part of His eternal community.
John 3:16; Romans 5:8; I Corinthians 1:18; John 11:25
We believe that it was God's desire to communicate this love to us, and that He has done so in the Bible - our highest source of authority. We believe that the Bible is true - God would not lie to us about these things - and that in it we learn not only of God's rescue through Christ, but also of His way of life through the Holy Spirit.
II Peter 1:20-21; II Timothy 3:16-17
We believe, therefore, that this one God exists, mysteriously, in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that this God alone is worthy of all our worship, our highest adoration, and our life-long service.
