I'm New
mission statement
In October of 2006, CrossWinds Church adopted a strategic new mission statement that is transforming the focus of our ministry on every level. The new mission statement is as follows:
The mission of CrossWinds Church is to KNOW Jesus, LOVE Jesus and REFLECT Jesus in our communities and world.
This statement is giving us missional clarity and focus as to who we are called to be as a church. Our mission has quickly transformed the way we talk, the way we do ministry and our future as a church. Everyone is learning that there is a powerful progression in the words know, love and reflect. The journey begins with a quest to know who Jesus really is. Once you come to know Him you can't help but fall in love with Him. And our love for Jesus naturally leads to reflecting Him in our communities and world.
There is a little catch phrase that we are using to describe the missio in our communities and the world: the church GATHERED and SCATTERED. We gather together in many different formats and places for spiritual formation. We then scatter to reflect Jesus beyond the walls of the church gathered. Our vision is to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving those in our neighborhoods and wherever God leads us in the world.
My soul has been stirred by the numbers of CrossWinds people who have "caught" the vision created by our mission and are running with it. New local and global initiatives are springing up every week as people follow their passions by taking on service projects of every description. The bottom line is that people with many kinds of unique needs in the community are being served.
One of our volunteer Community Life leaders recently made a statement that expresses the spirit of our vision as well as anything we have heard so far. As his team was busy doing home repairs for a disabled woman in Livermore he said to one of our pastors: "We want to be the face in the community before the new church facility gets here." We love it when one of our own not only gets the vision but is living it out as a reflection of Christ!
